Phil Howard opens South Kensington restaurant

In London’s South Kensington, chef Phil Howard has just opened British restaurant, Elystan Street, in partnership with Rebecca Mascarenhas.

This is the third restaurant launched by the duo, who already operate the one Michelin-starred Kitchen W8 in Kensington, and Sonny’s Kitchen in Barnes.

Having sold two Michelin-starred The Square in Mayfair this year, Howard is serving up a seasonal modern British menu at Elystan Street, with a strong focus on salads and a vegetable-heavy dishes. To meet the needs of the diners, there is less gluten and dairy on the menu. Former head chef at The Square, Toby Burrowes, is in charge of the kitchen.

Dishes include Roast Grouse with celeriac & pear purée, Autumn Spring Roll & Elderberries, and Rump of Lamb with pesto roasted aubergine, garlic, green olives & balsamic vinegar.

Environmentally-minded, Howard has banned bottled water at Elystan Street, and the site uses chemical-free cleaning products, and waste is composted.

The new restaurant also offers private dining for up to 12 diners.
