Taiwanese-style fried chicken eatery pops up in Camden

Chef's Office, Create, Inspire, Connect

A Taiwanese-style fried chicken pop-up has just open in London’s Camden Town. Mr Ji will be serving up chicken dishes daily from 12pm until 10 December.

The pop-up in Camden Parkway has been created by two friends, Sam Green and Samuel Haim, who discovered this style of fried chicken while in the night markets of Taipei in Taiwan.

The pair marinate the chocken in chilli, ginger and five spice, then deep fry it in a special Taiwanese coating. Customers can choose from a whole butterflied chicken breast – The Big Ji – or Half Ji. There’s also bitesized crispy fried chicken thighs, Mini Jis, and a selection of powders to dip the chicken into, including cayenne, curry and Mr Ji’s Secret Mix.

For sides, there are sweet potato fries sprinkled with plum powder, plus hot and sour chicken soups, zesty mustard greens. For sweet treats there are warm sweet potato and ginger doughnuts.

As in Taiwan, there are cold herbal tea infision including jasmine with blood orange and hibiscus, or oolong, lemon and honey. These can be spikeed with whiskey, vodka or gin.
