Buca Di Pizza to open at Hull’s Fruit Market

Independent pizzeria brand, Buca Di Pizza, is joining the line up of dining options at Hull’s Fruit Market. The 1,900 sq ft site will have 80 covers inside with seating for up to 20 diners outside.

The owners, brothers Geoff and Nick Thornton, are investing £175k in fitting out the pizzeria and bar in Humber Street, creating 15 full time and part-time jobs in the process.

Buca Di Pizza, loosely translating as ‘the pizza pit’, delivers informal dining and a contemporary twist on traditional Italian classics by using different tastes from around the globe.

Buca di Pizza will be located between Ambiente Tapas and Cocoa Chocolatier and Patisserie, adding to the growing list of distinctive leisure venues in the waterside district.

Geoff Thornton said, ‘The Fruit Market area is unique – it has such an interesting and very European feel. The developers, Wykeland Beal, have a very clear vision and there’s new retail, galleries and more new venues opening all the time.

‘It’s a great place to visit during the day and in the evening and we’re very excited about becoming part of it. We’re retaining many of the original features, such as the tiled floor, and it will have a really lovely rustic feel.”

This continued investment in the Fruit Market forms part of the £80m transformation by Wykeland Beal and housebuilder Beal Homes, in partnership with Hull City Council. The Fruit Market is populated by a mix of independent operators, including English, Indian, Spanish and now Italian cuisines.
