Dorset coast hotel sold to regional hotel operator

Lulworth Lodge hotel in Wareham, Dorset has been acquired by hotel operator Edward Wilkes, who’s based in the South West, through Colliers International.

Originally a mill house, the 12-bedroom boutique hotel, which is just metres from a stunning bay and the picturesque Jurassic Coast, was on the market for £150k for a 10-year free-of-tie lease.

Lulworth Lodge will now join Limestone Hotel and the Lyme Town House in Lyme Regis as part of Wilkes’ brand called Petite Hotels.

Wilkes now plans to create ‘an affordable beachside hotel and bistro’ at Lulworth Lodge, in keeping with the other boutique properties in the portfolio.

“The Lodge was a beautiful old mill house and had changed hands several times. Our neighbours are really excited at the prospect of our re-launch,” said Mr Wilkes, who is originally from Poole.

Ed Jefferson, from the South West hotels team at Colliers International, said, “Lulworth Lodge is a well-known business in the area and there was huge interest in the property.

‘With strong accommodation, good prospects for extending the food and beverage side of the business, and a fabulous location, we believe Edward Wilkes and his team have identified a fantastic niche business opportunity to attract smart ‘staycationers’ from all over the country.
