Glasgow hotel celebrates famous patron with rose cocktail menu

Chef's Office, Create, Inspire, Connect

One of Glasgow’s finest establishments is coming up roses as it launches a special cocktail menu celebrating the 150th birthday of one the city’s most famous patrons – Charles Rennie Mackintosh.

Inspired by the great Glaswegian designer and his rose motif, The Principal Grand Central Glasgow has unveiled the bespoke Bouquet of Roses cocktail menu in the iconic Champagne Central.

Each cocktail is named after a different coloured rose, infused with a beautiful blend of ingredients. The Pink Rose is a mix of Belvedere vodka, lemon juice, rose liqueur, rose bitters with crushed black pepper and peychauds, while The Yellow Rose is a vodka martini with a rosy twist mixing Belvedere grapefruit vodka, Cocchi Americano, rose liqueur and rose water mist.

For those who like to share cocktails with friends then The Rose Gold cocktail is perfectly paired for two people. A twist on the classic old fashioned and served in a Charles Rennie Mackintosh hip flask over a frozen rose, Glenmorangie Signet is mixed with old fashioned bitters, brown sugar cube and orange bitters and can be served smoked or unsmoked.

Scott Kerr, Champagne Central bar manager, said, “When creating the Bouquet of Roses cocktail menu, my main and most obvious inspiration was Mackintosh’s classic rose motif, easily one of his best loved designs. It represents elegance, and as Champagne Central is housed within one of the most elegant historic buildings in Glasgow, so the rose motif seemed to perfectly reflect the beauty of The Grand Central Hotel.”

Champagne Central recently underwent a sparkling makeover, upgrading its décor, creating luxury new seating areas, exclusive booths, beautiful marble tables and an extended bar to cater for its extensive Champagne and gin offering, and a striking new graphic identity.

The original domed ceiling, marble floors and regal pillars have been accentuated by the recent works, enhancing the character and making Champagne Central the perfect blend of a 21st century hotel bar with a nod to its rich heritage.
