Innis & Gunn launches competition to find next big beer flavour

Chef's Office, Create, Inspire, Connect

Scottish craft brewer, Innis & Gunn has just launched of the UK-wide Imagine & Gunn competition, which calls on those bursting with ideas, and a taste for great beer, to enter with a creative beer flavour.

Entrants will be vying for the chance to brew a new limited edition barrel-aged beer with Founder and Master Brewer, Dougal Gunn Sharp, at The Innis & Gunn Brewery in Perth, Scotland.

Gunn Sharp and his brewing team will select the most inspiring ideas for a shortlist of entries that will go to a public vote for beer fans across the UK to determine the winner. The overall winner will be invited to brew their beer with Dougal at The Innis & Gunn Brewery in Perth, Scotland. The new limited-edition beer will bear the winner’s name when sold across the UK in the summer of 2018.

Imagine & Gunn is an opportunity for beer lovers to put forward their idea for an exciting new beer and share in Innis & Gunn’s passion for flavour and innovation.

Dougal Gunn Sharp, Innis & Gunn Founder and Master Brewer, explained, “Ideas can come from anywhere and everywhere, and Imagine & Gunn really excites me because the possibilities for beer are limitless.

‘The competition is our way of inspiring beer drinkers to look at their beer and see something new – similar to when I had my own lightbulb moment which created our first beer, Original, and now our unique barrel ageing process where we put the barrels into the beer.

‘We have never stop experimenting and innovating and I hope this inspires people to get involved with Imagine & Gunn.”

The craft brewer is known for innovation and flavoursome barrel-aged beers, using two different methods of barrel-ageing to impart the incredible tastes and aromas from the wood into the beer. It has used traditional barrel ageing methods to create beers with raspberries, maple syrup and jalapeno chilies in its 2017 limited edition range.

Recently, Founder and Master Brewer Dougal Gunn Sharp developed a new unique method of putting the barrel into the beer for its core range of beers. The new limited edition beer will be barrel-aged, and the winner of Imagine & Gunn will be able to experience these methods first hand when they brew their beer with Dougal.

Innis & Gunn’s Imagine & Gunn program was originally launched in Sweden in 2016 with Mika’s Choice, a Bourbon Barrel-Aged Jalapeño Imperial Stout being crowned as the winning beer, which is now on sale across Sweden and in the UK at www.innisandgunn.com. Canada has also seen the launch of its own Imagine & Gunn competition, which received over 1,000 entries and is currently open to the Canadian public to vote for their winner.

The UK will be able to submit their flavour ideas to the Innis & Gunn brewing team at www.innisandgunn.com until midnight on Wednesday 15 November. A shortlist will be put to a public vote to determine the winning brew, which will be announced in December 2017.
