Hull-based Jacksons Bakery has won approval to build a £40m bread factory in Corby, Northamptonshire by next summer, with the creation of 100 jobs.

The new state-of-the-art bakery is being designed specifically to make bread for sandwich manufacturers.

The company’s current facility in Hull, Yorkshire, makes two million loaves every week for sandwich manufacturing and food service customers.

Jacksons Bakery makes 70% of the bread used in UK prepared sandwiches, and also makes branded bread for sale in UK supermarkets – the Jackson’s Yorkshire’s Champion loaf, which was launched in 2012.

Established in 1851, Jacksons Bakery is part of William Jackson Food Group – a fifth generation family business, which also owns Aunt Bessie’s, nationwide organic grocer, Abel & Cole, prepared vegetable business, MyFresh, and healthy snacking brand, The Food Doctor.
