Two wine makers and brothers from Tuscany, Marco and Iacapo Rossi have opened London’s first craft wine bar and eatery from an independent craft wine maker, situated on east London’s Brick Lane.
The bar and 50-cover restaurant, Pomaio, is named after the duo’s eco-friendly, award-winning winery, Podere di Pomaio.
The new venue celebrates the new flavours of Tuscany with selected craft wines and small plates, high quality ingredients from Tuscan artisan producers.
The impressive, carefully selected wine list is unique to London and the first of any kind featuring Italian craft wines coming from really small companies that are biodynamic, organic, sustainable and natural throughout.
Luca Degl’Innocenti – Tuscany’s top sommelier in 2013 and Enoteca Pomaio’s restaurant manager – has created the wine list from visiting a lot of craft wine makers along with Marco Rossi.
The modern Italian menu incorporates the big flavours of traditional Tuscan cuisine with a contemporary twist on small sharing plates inspired by their great friend and Chef Francesco Mastronardi of Osteria Mest near Florence.
There a variety of snacks, like bruschetta, prosciutto and cheeses. For lunch, there is the Tuscan Club Sandwich, Pecorino Cheese and Porcini Salad, which can also be taken-away.
The dinner menu is then split into sharing plates such as Bruchetta’s with Truffle and Quail Eggs or Asparagus and Guanciale then followed by main courses such as Polenta with stewed Wild Boar or Chaianina and Spicy Squid Cous Cous.
From the dessert menu Francesco has created delicious sweets such as the cheesecake with a Cantucci base and cocoa mousse with panforte.
