Prawn on the Lawn opens in larger premises with restaurant

Seafood bar and fishmongers, Prawn on the Lawn has opened a new London site in N1 with a restaurant, after moving from a smaller outlet.

The brand was established in 2013 by Rick and Katie Twogood, who first operated a site also in London’s N1, before deciding on a larger premises.

Situated on St Paul’s Road, the new branch still offers a fishmongers at the front, but also features a 16-seat basement restaurant, serving only the freshest seafood and tapas-style fish dishes. Customers can just buy the seafood, or they can choose some to enjoy in the restaurant.

Dishes include Scallop Ceviche, Seared Tuna, and the signature Prawn on the Lawn dish, as well as larger platters such as Fruits De Mer, sourced directly from day boats and fish markets in Devon and Cornwall. Every effort is made for the dishes to be as seasonal and sustainable as possible.

There are large seafood platters to share, with whole crabs and lobsters served with garlic butter. Diners can also choose fish from the counter, and have it cooked with either classic, Thai or Chinese flavours. Plus there are small plates which include Whole Cornish Mackerel with ‘nduja & nasturtium, and Plaice Tempura with curry sauce & crispy shallots.

There is also the welcome return of Prawn on the Lawn’s famous crushed potatoes, which are boiled then fried and sprinkled with their top secret spice mixture, made in-house.

In May 2015, the Twogoods decided to move to Cornwall to set up a second restaurant, Prawn On the Lawn Padstow, leaving the Islington site in the capable hands of their dedicated team. Opened in July 2015, it follows a similar format to the restaurant in Islington being a fully licensed fishmonger and seafood bar, with the addition of a hot food license.
