Skye Gyngell announces collaborators for food waste event at Somerset House

TABLE, the community eating house that will tackle food waste at Somerset House has released further information on the collaborators and producers that will form part of the 5-day event this May, in conjunction with photography exhibition, Photo London.

Hosted by Skye Gyngell (pictured) and the team from Spring, from 17 to 21 May, the key element of TABLE is to embrace community and sharing, allowing the simple act of hospitality to unite people from different backgrounds and social means.

Joining TABLE as Patron will be Carole Bamford, the pioneering organic lifestyle advocate, who will bring her experience and knowledge on promoting a sustainable way of living. Ingredients will be donated by biodynamic, Herefordshire farm, Fern Verrow, who have an ongoing partnership with Spring restaurant.

Heckfield Park Farm, based in Hampshire will also contribute towards the menu in the form of glut produce, off cuts and ingredients that wouldn’t usually be picked up by other kitchens, while Toast Ale, will provide their delicious ales made from surplus bread.

Talented interior designer Sophie Ashby of Studio Ashby, and Makerversity, will dress the space using donated materials, including decorations from set designer Rachel Thomas. Furthering community spirit, the workforce will largely comprise volunteers of students at Cordon Bleu culinary school and members of charity Freecycle to facilitate the project.

TABLE also pays thanks to London based charities Julie’s Bicycle and Hubbub that support the creative community act on climate change and environmental sustainability. Somerset House Trust have provided invaluable backing by allowing the use of their unfurnished Lancaster Rooms to house the project.
